Understanding the genetic inheritance of cardiovascular disease

m-hero--simple

false

Through pinpointing the genetic basis of cardiovascular disease our work will offer clearer diagnosis and management of this disease.

To allow for the clearer diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease.

Our primary interest is in exploring the causes of inherited thoracic aortic aneurysm disease, metabolic syndrome and myxomatous cardiac valve disease in cardiovascular disease.

Our work focuses on the genetic basis of cardiovascular diseases. Understanding the inheritance of these diseases will, in the long term, allow for their clearer diagnosis and management. Especially in the case of facilitating personalised medicine.

We collaborate with the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, the Centenary Research Institute, the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney, and the Rural Clinical School at University of NSW.

Our three major projects are:

  • Inherited thoracic aortic aneurysm disease – Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Radiology, Charles Perkins Centre
  • Metabolic syndrome – Rural Clinical School at University of New South Wales.
  • Myxomatous cardiac valve disease – Veterinary Science, University of Sydney.
