You are not required by law to supply us with your personal details for the above purposes, however, if you choose not to provide the information requested, it may not be possible for the University to consider you for a scholarship.
If you are successful in being awarded a scholarship, during the period you hold your scholarship we will collect information to monitor your ongoing eligibility for your scholarship and to manage any leave and temporary scholarship suspension processes you initiate.
During the scholarship application process, we may receive information about you from authorised third parties if you nominate your interest in the University of Sydney with them.
If you are an undergraduate domestic student and have registered with the University Admissions Centre (UAC) and nominate interest in University of Sydney programs, we will receive a range of personal information about you from UAC, including your name, email address, study intentions and interests, geographic location and demographic information as well as relevant supporting documentation where required, to support your application and assessment for potential scholarship opportunities.
For certain scholarships we may also collect references or personal statements from referees you nominate.

Personal information contained in scholarship applications will be used by the University for the purposes of assessing eligibility, administering, managing and awarding scholarships.
As part of the assessment and administration process for some donor or externally funded scholarships, the University may share and disclose limited personal information to relevant third parties, including name, degree program, and confirmation of their ongoing eligibility to receive the scholarship, where necessary and in accordance with applicable privacy legislation.
Where required for assessment or verification purposes, the University may disclose personal information to external organisations such as former employers, secondary schools, other tertiary education institutions, and tertiary admission centers (including the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC)) to verify qualifications, experience, or professional standing.
If you apply for a donor or externally funded scholarship, the University may disclose limited personal information to the donor or external funder for assessment purposes, such as your name, degree program, and information relevant to determining your eligibility for the scholarship, in accordance with applicable privacy legislation.
Depending on the scholarship requirements, it may also be necessary to disclose personal information to government agencies, including Services Australia, the Department of Education, Skills and Employment, the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Australian Taxation Office.
The University will not otherwise use or disclose your personal information without your consent unless required or authorised by law.
Your personal information is recorded in the University's student system and in its scholarship management environments.
The University has security measures in place to safeguard personal information from misuse, and unauthorised access, use, modification or disclosure, including those in the University’s Cyber Security Policy 2019 and Acceptable Use of ICT Resources Policy 2019 . We retain your personal information in accordance with our Recordkeeping Policy 2017.
If your Scholarship application is unsuccessful, your personal information will be retained for a short period of time in line with our legal and business obligations. We dispose of personal information securely and retain personal information safely and securely, in accordance with our Recordkeeping Policy 2017 and in accordance with the State Records Act 1998 (NSW) .
