Intramural Championship 2026

Join in friendly competition with your fellow University residents across a variety of events in the Intramural Championship.

The Intramural Championship is a program designed to provide students living in select residences with opportunities to engage in friendly competition while fostering a sense of community. It recognises student efforts and contributions towards building a more inclusive and connected residential environment. The Intramural Championship invites residents from 14 accommodation sites including University-owned accommodations, colleges, and private providers to participate.

How the competition works

Points System

Points are awarded for participation and placement in each event for the residence:

Outcome Points
Winner 5
Second place 3
Third place 2
Participation 1

Legacy trophies

To honor past victories, we have a tradition of rotating trophies, with the winning residence's name engraved on each trophy. The following trophies are awarded:

  • Intramural Champions Cup: for the residence that earns the most points across all events, excluding sports competitions.
  • Thomas Whalan Cup: for the residence with the most points in intramural sports (male category).
  • Liane Tooth Cup: for the residence with the most points in intramural sports (female category).

Benefits of joining

The Intramural Championship is aimed towards holistic development and is centered around connection and community. Through participation you may get:

  • invitations to the Intramural Gala dinner for every event winner
  • chance to be featured in the Intramural Journal
  • cash prizes or trophies for event winners in select events
  • opportunities for personal growth and skill development
  • recognition for participation in each event
  • access to a unique network of students across all the University of Sydney residential sites
  • glory for your residence and personal satisfaction alongside fun!

How to get involved

Participation in the Intramural Championship is voluntary and flexible, with opportunities to join on an event-by-event basis. Here are a few steps to help you get started:

  • Contact your residence's Intramural Captain: each residence has nominated Intramural Captains, who are the key contact persons for intramural-related questions and events. They help communicate important intramural updates and rally teams together to participate in the competition.
  • Register: if you or your friends in your residence are interested in competing, liaise with your Intramural Captain so they can register you for the event.
  • Prepare: each intramural competition event requires some level of preparation to increase your chances of success. You can speak with your Intramural Captains and respective residential staff to explore opportunities to participate.

You are not expect to participate in every event as we expect you to prioritise your studies over competing, but we welcome you to join in where possible so that you can enjoy all the benefits of taking part.
